Impromptu Funerals

An interactive performance on loss that was presented in small variations in Athens and London. During the happening, viewers get numbered slips of paper and after a draw, we start a funeral ceremony for the holder of the lucky lottery ticket. The viewer is called to speak their last words and then to lie on a specially designed area in the center of the stage (with the audience gathering around). Through the texts read which are a combination of poems written for the performance and improvisation associated with what we have been told by the funeree, we attempt a reflection on how grief and loss is experienced in the postmodern cultural context. 

Thus, during the ceremony, the funeral goes through phases of extreme lyricism and others of completely detached mechanical reading, while in the background pop songs play, laments or noise is heard, and at various points several guest appearances of dark cartoony characters help to build an outrageous and suffocating situation. The terror of death filtered through the blender of the spectacle remains indigestible constituting a scene whose both existential and completely ridiculous moments flirt with the Freudian uncanny.

Μια διαδραστική περφόρμανς με θέμα την απώλεια που έχει παρουσιαστεί σε μικρές παραλλαγές στην Αθήνα και το Λονδίνο. Κατα τη διάρκεια του δρώμενου οι θεατές παίρνουν αριθμημένα χαρτάκια και μετά από κλήρωση ξεκινάμε μια επικήδειο τελετή για τον κάτοχο του τυχερού λαχνού. Ο θεατής καλείται να μας πει τις τελευταίες του λέξεις και έπειτα να ξαπλώσει στον ειδικά διαμορφωμένο χώρο στο κέντρο της σκηνής (με το κοινό να βρίσκεται περιμετρικά γύρω του). Μέσω των κειμένων που είναι συνδυασμός ποιημάτων που έχουν γραφτεί για την performance και αυτοσχεδιασμών που συνδέονται με τα όσα μας έχει πει ο κηδευόμενος, επιχειρούμε έναν αναστοχασμό στον τρόπο που βιώνεται το πένθος και η απώλεια στο μεταμοντέρνο πολιτισμικό συγκείμενο.

Έτσι κατά την διάρκεια των κηδειών, ο επικήδειος περνάει φάσεις ακραίου λυρισμού αλλά και απολύτως αποστασιοποιημένης μηχανικής ανάγνωσης, στο background παίζουν ποπ τραγούδια, μοιρολόγια ή θόρυβος, και σε διάφορα σημεία guest εμφανίσεις διάφορων σκοτεινών χαρακτήρων-καρτούν συντελούν στο χτίσιμο μιας εξωφρενικής αλλά και αποπνυκτικής συνθήκης. Ο τρόμος του θανάτου περασμένος από το μπλέντερ του θεάματος εξακολουθεί να συνθέτει μια δυσκολοχώνευτη σκηνή όπου τόσο στις υπαρξιακές όσο και στις τελείως γελοίες στιγμές της φλερτάρει με το φροϋδικό Ανοίκειο.
